South America Awards to host ‘Smile of the Mask’

Iranian short film ‘Smile of the Mask’ has been selected to compete at the 2021 South America Awards (SAA) festival.

The short film is nominated to compete for the Best Actress, the Best Film, the Best Screenplay, the Best Director, the Best Cinematography, and the Best Design awards.

Directed by Abbas Ghazali, the short film deals with the issue of acid attacks.

“This was not my dream,” a tagline of the short reads.

Ghazali’s short flick was filmed last year in Turkey and participated in several international festivals, including the 6th Bremen Film Festival in Germany, the 2021 Brazil International Monthly Film Festival, and the 2021 Couch Film Festival in Canada.

Zahra Karimi is the actress and the producer of the film.

The SAA is a bimonthly festival that provides an opportunity for international films to compete.

There is also an annual competition in which the winners will compete. The 2022 edition of the event is scheduled for May 20-25.
